Abbey and Katie, also known as DrigoTwins (mashup of their maiden name and twins), begun crocheting at a young age after watching their paternal grandmother knit. They primarily crocheted blankets as gifts for family and friends throughout high school. During a 20+ years hiatus, the twins knitted and crocheted several items for fun, and then regained their crochet mojo after seeing the possibilities with amigurumis and expanding to various project ideas. The interest has spanned out into Katie’s daughter, Taylor, who quickly developed skills in the craft.
Due to numerous requests, Abbey and Katie realized that they needed to turn this into a side business. In developing the business, they wanted to honor their grandmother and decided to have their logo made in her memory. She was fond of butterflies, so the twins’ mother, LeeAnn, who is a graphic designer and the website developer, created the butterfly wings into a profile of two faces facing each other symbolizing twins. It just happens that the twins’ zodiac sign fits them and that was the birth of Gemini Gallery.
